Dr Raez major focus of research and clinical work is devoted to lung and head and neck cancers. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Public Health at University of Miami School of Medicine (UM). He is also the Co-leader of the Thoracic Oncology Group and Director of Hematology/Oncology Clinics at UM/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr Raez also has several clinical and translational trials that are the core of his clinical research. Most of them are phase I or II trials with new drugs for lung and head and neck cancers. Some of this clinical trials that are investigator initiated have been developed locally by him and other protocols are work in cooperation with other academic centers and researchers. Among them, for example Dr Raez under the mentorship of Eckard Podack PhD has develop an immunotherapy program for patients with lung cancer testing the allogeneic vaccines called “B7.1” and “gp96” in two different phase I clinical trials inducing a good immunological and clinical response the first results have been already published in “Cancer and Gere Therapy” and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has also developed the first human phase I trial for 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) a new type of anticancer therapy based in glycolysis inhibition, among other projects.
Dr Raez has published extensively in the areas of his expertise. He has more than 40 peer review publications and more than 60 presentations in national and international meetings. Dr Raez is a member of AACR, ASCO, ASH, ACP, ACCP, FLASCO, ECOG.
