Clinical Trial Information
The Division of Hepatology/Center for Liver Diseases is world famous for its innovative clinical research program and the vision of providing hope for patients with difficult to treat liver and biliary tract diseases. This is exemplified in the almost 50 ongoing clinical trials that are actively in progress.
The Hepatitis Diagnostic Laboratory, which serves as a resource for physicians, hospitals, other laboratories and leading pharmaceutical companies, is also a part of the research division. The laboratory serves as a reference center for studies on the efficacy of hepatitis vaccines and state of the art viral hepatitis testing.
We encourage you to speak to your physician about our clinical research trials before participating in our studies. These clinical trials are not to replace your health care providers, but they may expand your health care options. Participation in a research trial is voluntary. You may decide not to participate or withdraw from a research study at any time without compromising your future medical care.
Conduct of the Clinical Research Trial
Before you enroll in the trial, you will receive a consent form outlining the benefits and risks of a participant. You have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the trial with the trial coordinator or an investigator. Trial coordinators are typically managed by a nurse, and investigators are physicians who supervise the trial. Once the consent form is signed, you will undergo a history and physical exam, have blood drawn as part of this research study and be scheduled for other studies related to the procedures. Both the study coordinator and investigator will monitor your progress.
