Smoking Cessation Information
Tobacco use is by far the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. accounting for almost one-half million premature deaths per year (approximately one third from chronic bronchitis and emphysema, one third from coronary heart disease and stroke and one third from cancer). Smoking cessation is therefore an important goal. While several medications exist to help to quit smoking, many people need a support program to assist them in the process.
The University of Miami offers a smoking cessation program, called BeSmokeFree. The web site of BeSmokeFree contains all the necessary information for potential participants. For inquiries, please contact jpinto@miami.edu or call 305-243-3209. Other smoking cessation information can be found here.
